She Who Must Be Pampered

She, by H. Rider Haggard was one of the first complete books I remember reading in English. A story of a British expedition to Africa, where they find She, (short for She Who Must Be Obeyed), an ancient, beautiful queen who by means of magic has remained young and beautiful for ages. It's probably the first book that made translating a pleasure, as I was actually very interested in the plot.

My old Singer T&S has been nicknamed "Ellita", Little She. She Who Must Be Pampered, was running clunky, making more noise than I thought it should make. Ellita came without a manual, so I have tried figuring out all I could by trial and error. Well, I had been able to clean the bottom, and oil there. The top was resisting, though. I couldn't figure out how to lift the top to check gears there and clean and oil. Thursday, after a long wrestling session, Ellita showed me her insides :) The good news is she sews a lot quieter now, the bad news is that the smell of machine oil gives me headaches!

Here she is with a new pillow I made this week. I finally tried the decorative stitches. They aren't all that great, but it makes a good straight stitch and handles straight line quilting like a champ. Now all that's left is to bring out the darning foot and see if we remain good friends after trying to free motion quilt with it.

And lastly, a question: These came with the box of feet and throat plates. I have no clue what these are for. Any guesses? A zipper foot? It had a metal zipper foot, a straight stitch foot, a zigzag foot, a button sewing foot and knit foot. This one, I can't figure out.

Ella, el libro de H. Rider Haggard es uno de los primeros libros que recuerdo haber leido entero en inglés. Es la historia de una expedición británica a Africa, donde encuentran a Ella, (Ella Quien Debe Ser Obedecida), una reina bellísima que usando magía se ha mantenido joven y bella durante siglos. Es probablemente el primer libro que me interesó tanto leer en inglés que no me costó esfuerzo traducir.

La Singer Touch And Sew que encontré se llama Ellita. Ellita Quien Debe Ser Mimada hacía bastante ruido. No tiene manual de instrucciones, asi que he ido aprendiendo a usarla a ojo. La había desmontado por abajo y la había limpiado y engrasado, pero no fuí capaz de desmontar el cabezal hasta el jueves. Por fin, al cabo de horas de mirar y remirar, ví como se abría y Ellita me enseñó sus tripas y me dejó que la limpiase y la engrasase. Ahora suena mucho mejor, no hace tanto ruido, lo bueno de haberla mimado. Lo malo es que el olor del aceite me da dolores de cabeza.
Aquí está con una foto de los cojines que he hecho esta semana. Por fín he usado las puntadas decorativas, no son gran cosa. Pero Ellita hace un pespunte la mar de majo y acolcha con el pie de doble arrastre como una campeona. Ahora lo único que tengo que hacer es armarme de valor, sacar el pie de acolchado libre y ver si nos hacemos un poco más amigas aún.

Y ahora, una pregunta. Ellita vino con una cajita de pies y otros accesorios. El resto, se para que son, pero estos tres no tengo ni idea. Tiene pies para cremalleras, para pespuntes, para zigzag, para botones y uno para telas que dan de sí. Podría ser para cremalleras también?
