Sunday, coupons in hand, I headed for Joann's to get the batting and backing for the pink quilt that I had started piecing back in August 2007. I needed to add the two borders around the pieced blocks. Digging thru my boxes of fabric, I found 1/2 yd of an old beigey print from one of the first quilts I made, and it worked just fine. I had to piece strips to get the lenght, but once it is quilted, it won't be as noticeable. I picked Fairfield's 80/20 again, as I loved the way it puckered up when I washed the 30's quilt I just had finished.
El domingo, con los cupones de descuento en el bolsillo, fui a Joanns a comprar la guata y la trasera para el quilt rosa que empecé a coser en agosto de 2007. Necesitaba terminar los dos bordes que van alrededor de los bloques. La semana pasada, rebuscando en las cajas de tela, encontré un trozo de media yarda de color beige claro que me sobró de uno de los primeros quilts que hice. Queda bastante bien, aunque tuve que coser dos tiras para que me diera el largo. Creo que una vez que acolche los bordes, no se notará tanto la costura. Elegí de nuevo la guata de Fairfield 80/20. Me encantó el resultado cuando lavé el quilt con telas de los años treinta, quedó muy mullidito.
As I do with all quilts, I wrote down a little paragraph in my quilt journal. I think it is important (at least for me), to add some tidbits that might just help someone in the future to understand what was happening while I was making any given quilt... hoping against hope that quilts and journal will stay together. In this case, I noted the price of batting and backing and the fact the store was jam-packed with shoppers. As I keep quilting, I might add historical notes to the journal -presidential inauguration a few days away-.
Como hago con todos los quilts, añadí un parráfo a mi "diario de quilting". Creo que es importante (por lo menos para mí), escribir cuatro lineas que puede que ayuden a alguien en el futuro para entender lo que pasaba según estaba cosiendo éste quilt o el otro... y espero que el diario y los quilts no se separen. En este caso, escribí el precio de la guata y la trasera y el hecho de que la tienda estaba super llena el domingo. Según lo vaya acolchando, seguro que añado alguna nota histórica al diario -la inauguración del presidente Obama va a ser dentro de unos dias-.Reading back, I went from mundane facts -the Michael Jackson trial's veredict on June 13th, 2005, while piecing block #80 of Nearly Insane-, to historical ones, like the newscast announcing Saddam Hussein's death when I was sewing NI's block #49 on Dec. 29th., 2006. And even the fact Mars was closest to Earth in 60.000 years on August 27th., 2005 while I was piecing stars for the Sarah Jonhson quilt and I was listening to the radio then. Weather notes, price of fabric, anniversaries, deaths, births, snippets of fabric taped to the pages, photos... a little bit of everything. I couldn't remember half of them, it was a nice trip down memory lane.
Leyendo lo que había escrito previamente, fuí de hechos mundanos -el veredicto del juicio contra Michael Jackson en junio del 2005- cuando estaba cosiendo el bloque 80 del Nearly Insane, a hechos históricos como cuando la tele cortó los programas para anunciar la muerte de Saddam Hussein, cuando cosía el bloque 49 del NI. Y hasta el hecho de que Marte estuvo más cerca de la Tierra el día 27 de agosto de 2005 cuando estaba escuchando la radio y cosiendo un bloque para el quilt de Sarah Johnson. El tiempo, el precio de las telas, aniversarios y muertes y nacimientos, trocitos de tela pegados a las páginas, fotos... un poco de todo. No me acordaba de muchos, me hizo mucha gracia releerlos.

Here it is, the whole thing, pink as all get out! My mom liked Musgo's quilt so much, I've decided to give her this one as well (for her, not for my little brother :)
